[html5] What are the potential benefits of using XHTML?

Seeing that HTML adds support for SVG etc. When exactly would there be any clear benefits to using XHTML?

If we consider potential, yet-to-emerge benefits from the future?

A discussion which keeps on going, is whether there are any benefits to use XHTML, and we are getting no where.
Are the specifications really that unclear about any clear benefits?
