[html5] "internal slot"

In the WHATWG "Streams" specification, the term "internal slot" is used in a
number of places, but I could not find a definition of this term in that
specification or any other specification. Can someone explain to me what it
means, or point me to a reference that defines it?

Also the construct [[.]] is used in a number of places, but I could not
figure out what this means. Again, can someone explain it for me, or point
me to a reference for it.
