Ok you *might* be able to show them. But how is a user supposed to
remember them to really get an advantage? Accesskeys vary from site to
site.

Yes and think about mobile device UAs. 
They are operated with one hand. :)

That would be something.

To answer Jim's long term question. I hope UAs can implement mechanisms
to help users "short cut" to the most interesting or used elements of a
web application.
