Rob,
YouTube does not show a poster at the end of the video by default, they show other related videos in that space. The content producer can change that but by default YouTube shows (using Flash player) other related videos and the whole thing is animated and interactive.

Given the above cases, having a method the specifically controls the visibility of the poster (alone) will allow all of the above cases to be implemented.
A side question: do any of these sites want a poster that has dynamic/interactive content in it?
