I don't know of any spellcheck API under development, beyond just
spellcheck="true"/spellcheck="false".  There might be one, but I don't
recall hearing about it.  Some implementers have expressed concerns
before about exposing user dictionary data to sites, because it will
increase fingerprintability, but other spellcheck features might be
useful without causing privacy problems.
