Thanks, Ian. We've been thinking about what to do about this. There
are parts of the web intents API that depend on more thorough
integration with HTML, and so we should be discussing the spec on
WHATWG. But there's a lot of important work still be done in the web
intents task force as well. We've started on specifying data formats,
collecting and documenting best practices, and working on related
specs (i.e. contacts and UPnP) that belong on public-web-intents.
It'll require more coordination and work, but James and I will take on
the responsibility for coordinating the discussions and keeping the
web intents draft spec in sync with the HTML web intents work in
WHATWG. I think that for some aspects, such as registration, the bulk
of the discussion will happen at WHATWG, since those pieces will be
most dependent on HTML, the parser, and the relationship with other
features like registerProtocolHandler and registerContentHandler.
There's also a lot of work to be done on declarative invocation that
will be a big asset to the API, and will be better accomplished in
WHATWG.
We know that "do both!" will end up requiring more coordination work,
but the opportunity to get more people involved in the discussion will
be worth the effort, since it will result in a better API.
