thanks for the reply; I was really glad to hear your thoughts.
Regarding the "HTML 5 forum" Google search: it certainly is at the top of
the results list now, however I am not sure if this was the case about one
month ago, at the time when I did my original research. I don't think I went
past page 2 of the search results back then. In short, I just don't
recollect stumbling upon it at that time - but it's good to see it at the
current position!
it seems to have a slightly different focus than the WHATWG forums.

Exactly, the focus of Web Platform Forum is more about the various aspects
of web as a rich platform (which means HTML5 but also things like video,
semantic standards, etc). It should not (and ultimately, cannot) replace the
in-depth discussions about HTML5, CSS3, etc at spec level :-)
The WHATWG forum certainly looks usable, I can see it has nice code
highlighting, something which is at this point is missing from Web Platform
Forum.
I guess I'll look forward to all the interesting discussion then. Let's see
if one more forum will result in more discussion :-)
