[html5] data attribute for datalist element

Anne van Kesteren is his article at: http://dev.opera.com/articles/view/an-html5-style-google-suggest/  published in 2007 (3 years ago)
mentioned the HTML5 feature that let the suggestions for a datalist element be populated from an external file. That feature relies in the 
data attribute for datalist element.
Doing a search on the specs I didn't found nothing about the data attribute for datalist element. It seems that the feature was removed from specs and doesn't exists anymore. Is this true?
